This fresco painting from the villa at Boscoreale pictures a woman in a white robe and blue cloak, and holding a gold shield in her right hand. The front of the shield shows the image of a standing nude male figure who is adorned with a white headband. Many think that the shield with the man is a symbol of protection, protecting women. In this fresco, the woman in a way looks weak because she has a shield with a picture of a man on the shield. women in a way were required to stay home and become mothers, they couldn’t fend for themselves and could only be seen with a man. This later changed in other communities where women were required to take military training. Women were an object.
