This Sculpture of Caligula, is a Roman portrait style sculpture. This Sculpture was meant for political propaganda, this concept was established by Augustus in order to stress the unity and continuity of their reign. Caligula, who was obsessed with his own appearance, used this technique. This marble bust of Caligula has many of Augustus’ features, like his hair face and nose, however the artist used some of Caligula’s individual, characteristics. like his vanity and cruelty. This statue, shows Caligula as a kind figure, when in reality his is most often depicted as cruel, this comes to show that Roman emperors showed what they wanted to be remembered as not as they were.
